How And Why to Achieve THE new Sexy Healthy Body
The future of fashion no longer looks fantastic on just those with a BMI of 18.
One of the biggest controversial topics in fashion is making a difference in the year 2009. When shuffling through magazines I find myself shocked to see that the new fashion silhouettes will actually look good on a figure such as mine, and I am NOT a size zero. It seems that designers are finally coming to their senses and realizing that a size zero is not the most attractive size for a woman to be.
“Milan stands alongside Paris and New York as one of the world's most important fashion events. Like the other two it has, until now, resisted demands to stamp out the waif look. Fashion labels Prada, Versace and Armani have already agreed to ban size zero models from their catwalks,” says Ashley Rogers from Metro.co.uk.
Now that the waif look is out and starving yourself is no longer the way to achieve the ideal body, where do we go from here?
Eating Habits
Eat as many times as you like each day but make sure that what you’re eating has some kind of nutritional value and your portions are not larger than life every time you pick up a fork. Tip: Bring healthy and easy to prepare snacks on the go.
Mix it up by going back to the basic simple four basic food groups: carbs, veggies, fruits, and meat that way your body gets its full nutritional value from each group. Tip: Pack your own lunch. You’ll save money and know what you’re eating.
Hydrate your body by drinking lots of water. Try to stay away from sugary drinks like pop and artificially flavored juices. Tip: Carry a non disposable water bottle with you at all times.
Easy Lifestyle Changes
Try to stay busy. Lately I’ve noticed that the busier I am the less I concentrate on weight loss. While I move around all day completing the never ending list of things to do I am burning calories without even breaking a sweat. So KEEP BUSY! Tip: If you find yourself having 2 to 3 hours of spare time in a day, join a sports team, take up pottery lessons or knitting; whatever makes you happy.
Tone up baby! There is not one workout regime that works for every single person so I won’t bore you with 30 different types of crunches or how to get rock hard buns. You need to figure it out for yourself what works. Target your troubled areas by researching exercises for those specific muscles. Throw in a bit of cardio a couple times a week and you’ll be on your way in no time. Tip: Its not about being the skinniest you can be, keep it simple and you will achieve a healthy BMI.
These simple changes will help you to achieve that sexy body you deserve. A relief that has been long awaited is finally here and people are noticing, so take advantage of this skinny expectation leeway and look the best you can by following a simple diet and keep it easy by adding activities to your lifestyle that keep you moving!

Sparkle and Shine-A guide to adding a little je ne sais quoi to your holiday party wardrobe
A Little Twinkle
For those who have a more demure approach to their fashion choices, adding a beret adorned with sequins, a sparkly belted sash or glittery chic clutch are great ways to incorporate the sparkly look into your holiday wardrobe. When paired with your little black dress or a great pair of menswear inspired wide legged trousers, the sequins take centre stage without overpowering your assemble. Some great items to try are Patricia Field’s rainbow bright sequined beret and Proenza Schouler’s black sequined harem inspired pants.
Guiding Light
For the daring fashionistas who aren’t afraid to enter a room with some extra glimmer and glitz, why not try a full fledged sequined dress? It looks exceptionally chic when worn as a shift style such as French Connection’s Gold Sequin Row Dress paired with patent leather Mary Janes and a shiny satin clutch. Feel free to choose a dress that accents a pattern with sequins to emphasize your extroverted personality. Abstract shapes, animal prints and stripes all get an added punch when presented in sequins.
Disco Don’t
To avoid looking like a disco ball or a modern day Liberace when sporting a sequined accessory or garment to your holiday party, keep things to a minimum. If you choose to wear a sequined shift avoid accessorizing with a glittery beret and sparkly shoes, the last thing you want to do is cause someone to wear their sunglasses at night, indoors. Keep hair and accessories simple so that they serve as accents to your overall look. A simple strappy heel and smooth strands keep the focus on the sparkle and avoid sequin overkill. The sequined look is all about adding that extra sparkle to lighten up your look during the exciting holiday festivities. Don’t forget to have fun and wear what makes you feel extra shiny.
Brilliant Expectations
Fear not fashionistas, no need to stash that sequined clutch once the snow melts, for sequins were fun yesterday, continue to be today and will be tomorrow. Sequined garments were all over the spring 2009 runways including looks by Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang and Erin Fetherson. A few standout looks include a purple ombré sequined shift and an iridescent pearl t-shirt. Whenever you feel the need for a little extra sparkle throw on your favourite sequined look and have a night on the town.

Epic Ease
Epic Ease
Even though summer’s over, we don’t need to go into hibernation!
Use these thoughts to advance into the new season with confidence
Fab in 15
We all have those nights, where there’s never enough time to get ready. Now it’s time for the crucial makeup: concealer, foundation, mascara, eye liner, blush. Concealer, the most important item in your makeup bag, usually skin tone but use green for problem red areas. Max three minutes application time. Foundation next, a powder is better since this will make skin look less oily, especially when dancing up a storm or just standing in a crowed bar. Two minutes later, blush it up, smile and put a quick swoosh of powder across the natural blush area of your cheeks; max 2 minutes. Now it’s time for fabulous eyes, put eye liner; liquid liner is quicker but if this is too difficult, go for a dark pencil, this should only take about three minutes. Mascara is another important part, one should never be without it. Lash Blast Mascara parts as it coats the lashes making it quicker. This could take about 4 minutes including lash curl time. If you have time, white liner or shadow in the inside corner of the eye since it make the eyes seem bigger. Throw on a dress, and now you’re ready for an amazing night on the town!
Night Bright
What to wear tonight? The little black dress is classic but overused, and red was last year’s attempt at something new. Black, red and white, all classic and all characterless. To make a real impression, use some colour, and I don’t mean just, browns, greys, forest greens and navys. Stay a little safe with a classic silhouette, but go for a pop of colour; bright yellows, blues, purples and greens. Feeling really daring? Go for an exciting new type of silhouette with the bright colours and people will remember you not only for your bright smile but for your bight outfit for fall.
Sensitive Souls
Finding the perfect heels can be difficult, especially for people with fragile feet, many a night women have come home with mangled feet. This can all be fixed with careful shopping and careful wearing. If you want to stand the whole night without thinking about your feet, pick a wedge heel because your weight will be evenly distributed. As well, having some sort of ankle strap will help keep the shoe on and make sure the foot doesn’t move around too much in the shoe creating blisters. A thicker bottom to the shoe is better because there is padding between the foot and the floor. However, if the shoe you want does not have those specifications, there are always invisible inserts that go along the bottom of a shoe that give reinforcement. If you’re willing to spend the extra money to get a great pair of shoes, Cole Haan has some great Nike Air classic heels which are extraordinarily comfy.
A Closet In Crisis
The prognosis looks grim. Your closet is so crammed full of old clothing that you fear it will never be able to fully recover from your pack-rat ways. You are a hoarder, tightly clinging to the memories found in prom dresses, grandma's hand-knitted sweaters, and your ex-boyfriend's t-shirt. In our eco-friendly age of "recycle, reduce, reuse" not all hope is lost. Being more responsible with consumption can involve diving into the chaos of your closet and finding interesting ways to clean it out. For all the fashionistas with hungry eyes for style, this just means more room on your shelf for the latest trendy item. Here are some beneficial suggestions to help you work towards a healthy, happy closet.
Your closet looks great, did you donate?
Trot on down to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army and drop off your used clothing for those who really need it. There are also other charities in Toronto like Dress Your Best (14 Dewhurst Blvd. at Pape and Danforth, www.dressyourbest.ca), which provides men and women from low-income families with clothing for the workplace. Another fantastic option is to research your own charity, but remember to check out the Canada Revenue Agency website (www.cra.gc.ca) and make sure that the charity is registered before you donate.
Swap till you drop
Ok, so your closet may get a tad full again, but clothing swaps are the new way to rid yourself of burdensome old sweaters and jeans. A clothing swap might involve exchanging my purple dress for your to-die-for suede tassel jacket, a most excellent trade! Invite your favourite fashion friends over for a night of drinks, chatting, and swapping. Facebook is a great way to create a clothing swap event, and Craigslist is the place if you want to find public clothing swaps in your area. You and your closet will feel rejuvenated and refreshed after a good swap.
Before you buy, SELL! SELL! SELL!
Perhaps you prefer the thought of a little cash in your pocket? For a small fee, you can register as a seller on Ebay (www.ebay.ca) and post photos of the items that you wish to sell. For those vintage darlings with a collection of ill-fitting dresses, Etsy (www.etsy.com) is the ideal place to sell your unwanted garments. Consignment stores are another option for those who are not so internet savvy. Common Sort (804 Queen St. East, 416-463-7678, www.commonsort.com) offers twenty-five percent of the price that the item would be sold for in the store. If you have a wardrobe full of brand-name clothing, The Comeback (4893 Dundas St. West at Burnhamthorpe Rd, 416-231-0381) is the consignment store for you. So, after you have donated, swapped, or sold your excess clothing, you and your closet will be ready to move into the fashion future.
There are only clear shelves ahead.
Rock Out Knock Out
How to Dress Like a Rock Star
Combat Baby
Put a twist on the old school, punk style combat boots by adding rhinestones around the ankle for a night out to catch the eye of the lead singer. The classic black boot will always be in style, but why not try a flat grey or jewel-toned purple to add that rocker flare. From ankle to knee high, a pair of black leather (faux or not) boots will always be a staple in your wardrobe. Remember, the thigh’s the limit!
Pump Up the Volume
Tired of flat, boring hair? Kick it up a notch with an edgy, ultra short cut or an extremely layered look. Going short? Cut the back of your hair to about an inch long, while razoring your front ends to get a choppy slice to slightly cover your eyes like Rihanna’s new do. Not ready to chop it off just yet? You can still have the rock star look just by adding texture. Think Nikki Sixx minus the scary 80’s glam-rock wardrobe. Keep the locks long; just add lots of uneven layers around the side. Then razor choppy layers near your crown, tease and spray with an all-night hold. Still not convinced to chop? Add some chunky, fluorescent extensions to stand out in the crowd.
Back in Black
The most obvious colour to choose when picturing your fave rocker’s style is black. Slimming, classic, and sexy, this colour can look good on anyone. However, this shade can be played loud by adding a note of colour. Try a vibrant legging in either shocking pink, punk-rock purple or an electric blue. Don’t forget to apply this to jeans. A pair of scarlet red jeans will make you the rage off-stage. Not ready for exploring the rainbow? Break up black by wearing hot, zebra-stripped leggings with your hottest black dress.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Of course you can look the part by rockin’ a studded leather bracelet, but consider being the girl glowing in the spotlight. Add to your rockette attire by wearing rhinestones on your shoes, on your fab clutch, your rings and necklaces. Just don’t overdo it. Take advice our out-of-control rock stars should’ve listen to; “everything in moderation!”
Eye-dolize
Be the girl all the groupies are jealous of. Create that sexy bedroom eye with these easy to-do tips. To keep eye shadow from melting in the mosh pit, keep your lids oil free by using a primer over your lid before applying the eye shadow. Use an iridescent colour under the brow and the inner corners of your eyes. Take a smokey, charcoal colour and apply it with a thin to medium brush starting at your lash line and blend up. Apply eyeliner above the upper lash line and just below the lower lash line. For fun, use a bright purple, blue or deep green line to make your eyes pop. Finish off with a volumizing mascara, like Cover Girl’s Lash Blast. Don’t be afraid to go a bit darker than usual; just don’t go Marilyn Manson on us!
Put a lid on it
3 Steps to find the perfect hat for you.
Hats! Hats! Hats! It’s a love/hate relationship for many, but they are the new accessory for fall that can say a lot about your personal style. Celebrities have some of most sought after domes for a stylish hat, many have popularized a particular style of their own. If we re-cap on a few famous names, Ashton Kutcher started a trucker hat phenomena and the Britney Spears and Kevin Federline duo brought back the fedora with much class as they could muster, and it worked. Even if you don’t have celebrity status you can revamp your wardrobe with a few simple tricks. There is the perfect hat out there just waiting for you to wear it. Many hat virgins believe that there is not a chance that they can pull off that funky fedora or a tantalizing top hat, but with the right style and a few pointers they might be pleasantly surprised. When selecting a hat the first thing you must remember is: it’s all in the details. The perfect hat should compliment your face shape, your body type and the have a good overall fit.
Step 1. Finding the perfect hat starts with determining the shape of your face. If you do not already know your face shape, the simplest way is to look in the mirror and trace the outline of your face. It is easiest to use an eyeliner pencil or some other kind of oil-based pencil. Once you have decided which category you and your melon belong to it is time for the next step.
Face shapes:
Square: Your head will be equally wide at the forehead, cheeks, and jaw line.
Tips: wear the hat at a slant or have the brim sitting asymmetrically
Heart-shaped: The forehead will be broader and then taper into a small, narrow chin.
Tips : wear the hat straight across the eyebrow and hairline. Try to avoid a crown(the part of the hat that sits on your head) that is narrower that the width of the cheekbones.
Round: The forehead and chin will be round with wide, full cheeks. Tips: Choose hats with high brims and angular shapes. Avoid round, circular, or floppy-shaped hats these will only emphasize a round face.
Oval: You will have wider cheekbones and then narrow down to the jaw line and chin. Oval face shape will also be narrow up towards the forehead. Tips: You can get away with almost any style of hat. Feel free to play with all the gorgeous shapes and styles.
Step 2. Determining your body type is necessary in terms of proportion. The general rule of thumb is if you are on the smaller side a smaller hat is right for you. If you are on the bigger side than a larger hat will work best.
If you're petite:
Choose hats with a small brim and low crown. Avoid big hats, which can be overpowering to small frames.
If you're tall:
Choose hats with a wide brim and a shorter crown. Avoid narrow, angular-shaped hats.
If you're full-figured:
Wide, full-brimmed hats can add balance to a curvy figure.
Step 3. The last and final step is to make sure that the size is correct. Size is all objective to what you feel is snug to your head but you do not want the hat to be falling off or to have a death grip on your noggin’. The average size for a hat is 22” diameter, so go from there. If you shop at a specialty stores, such as a hat shop you should be able to find most hats in this size. Specialty stores may cost a little more but they carry a wider range of sizes and styles, they can also help if you’re unsure about your size.
Whether it’s a bowler, fedora, porkpie, beret, newsboy cap, or even an optimo your fashion objective is to have to a new accessory that looks great on you. So go ahead have fun, cater to your cranium.

How to Strut Your Stuff Like Laura Hollins (A.K.A. Agyness Deyn)
Fake name? Check. Platinum blonde locks? Check. Rock star boyfriend? Check. Fashion’s most talked about model has a unique approach to style that seems to be catching on.
From the Street Up
The first thing that you’ll need to do if you want to dress like Agyness Deyn is to stop second guessing yourself. Wear whatever feels comfortable and whatever you feel is fashionable and wear it with confidence; and of course it wouldn’t hurt if you wore something with a bit of a punk influence. Fashion’s newest “it” girl Agyness Deyn (whose real name is Laura Hollins) has taken over the fashion industry. It’s almost impossible to open a magazine today without seeing her picture; from Rodarte to House of Holland to Oscar de la Renta, Agyness Deyn is proving that she is more than just a punk from the U.K. streets. Her face is everywhere; her “laissez faire” attitude and unique style are something to be admired and her eclectic sense of fashion is more proof that fashion trends are making their humble beginnings on the streets. Fashion, with the help of “Aggy” Deyn, is allowing us to express our inner rebels.
Out With the Young and In With the New
Agyness Deyn is the fresh new face of fashion; she is different, and uniquely pretty in a boyish way. She exudes confidence and personality and she is replacing the 16 year old, doll faced girls that grace the runways. She is providing inspiration for future designers, trends and even models by expressing individuality and pushing the boundaries of what’s trendy. She makes bold fashion choices when it comes to bright colors and prints and isn’t afraid to mix and match to show off her personal style and hopefully she can encourage others to be just as creative. She is a reminder that fashion is about individuality and self-expression, and not about always following what’s in but instead creating your own trends. It’s no wonder that Henry Holland, of House of Holland, chose her as his muse for his fall 2008 collection.
Madame vs. Mademoiselle
It’s hard to ignore all the comparison to Kate Moss and it would seem that Agyness Deyn is following in her footsteps. Not only did she knock Kate off of Tatler’s, a U.K. based publication (think Vogue), best dressed list but she is now a spokes model for Jean Paul Gauthier’s new fragrance MaDame, which is a little reminiscent of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign in which Kate was Chanel’s Mademoiselle. With all the attention that she’s been getting it’s no surprise that the British model is being compared to the likes of Kate Moss and Twiggy. If she is a preview of the future of fashion, one can only get excited!
Precious Medals
Precious Medals
The do’s and don’ts of metallic apparel for the winter season.
Bronze, silver and gold: when it comes to the near future of winter 2009, the runways are already demanding a gleaming collection of flashy metallics. Although superhero-like and fashion forward sporting metallic’s can be done the right way or the tacky way. The metallic “futuristic” look is often perceived as sticky plastics and cracked finishes, but here are five do’s and don’ts for these precious medals to ensure your “intergalactic” yet couture look. When wearing metallic’s as a base make sure to shop for high quality fabrics and proper cuts. There is nothing worse than wearing a garment fitted just so that the shiny fabric highlights bulges and some definite problem areas. Also, for the love of fashion please, please do not wear something that is a knock off of genuine fabric, to end up looking as though you wrapped yourself in a roll of aluminum foil before going about your day. When selecting metallic’s in accessories, go for gold and silver. Nothing feels more glamorous in a worn out season than carrying that absolutely adorable gold clutch. Everyone strives for gold anyways, would you settle for a penny looking purse in copper when gold compliments your style and your personality, no. Silver hand bags are the perfect way to glisten amongst those in the dreary midst of winter. If you carry a fabulous bag than you will feel fabulous. Trust me on that one. Nothing completes an outfit better than shoes, when shopping for the right shoe to match your futuristic style, go head over heels for steel. Shoe-boots with a steel heel or a flashy steel finish is all you need to complete the metallic trend from head to toe. Trust me, they will be a total steel, get it. From head to toe your dressed trendy and not spacey but what is more difficult than trying to scope out those perfect accessories? When purchasing accessories for this season of metallics, do not at all ever try to match them piece for piece. This is where a solid metal with little detail gives you the ideal image in pulling off this tricky trend. Basics people, nothing looks worse than matching flashy sequin earrings with a shiny dress and hand bag. Tone it down to an everyday look while still flashing the trend. Last but not least, nobody feels complete without the perfect make-up. Do a subtle shimmer. Grey tones with a little bit of sparkle are flawless for day wear and to add a little something extra for the eyes, try dotting a tiny bit of gold or silver ever so gently into the corners of your eyes to give that innocent yet mysterious look for the evening. Gloss up with a neutral shade and peek-a-boo sparkles in the mixture to express your kisses. Precious medals are in this year so remember your five do’s and don’ts with metallic’s and I promise you will not look like an alien from some space world sporting aluminum foil.

Over time, these chemicals can leach into our system, an extra we didn't bargain for with purchase. Luckily, there are some great natural alternatives, which are water-based, and water soluble. Try:

Accessorize! Accessorize!
Child’s Play
Remember the days of playing dress up? Well, for some this is still a daily occurrence. Try to refrain from piling on everything in your closet. It may have been fun when you were a kid, but doesn’t seem to transcend too well through the ages. A helpful way to ease your way into minimizing your look, is to follow the simple rule of taking off the last piece you put on (keeping in mind that the last thing put on was an accessory of some sort).
Bo-ho to Hobo
We may all secretly (or openly) wish to dress like one of the Olsen twins, but even they can sometimes over do the Bo-ho look. The key to pulling this look off with out over accessorizing (which with this style is way too easy to do) is to pick out garments that already have that theme “built in.” One example could be as easy as a great floral dress complemented with a large floppy hat and boots. Those pieces paired together alone scream bohemian chic. But if you just can’t help yourself, a few bangles on your wrist would also give this outfit the right vibe.
Everything in Moderation
With the winter season upon us, we all have the tendency to throw on the layers. Though keeping warm is a priority, there are always ways to do this while still showing off that great figure. Still a hot trend for the Fall/Winter season is scarves. They come in so many wonderful colours, patterns and fabrics that you could virtually wear one every day of the week, and still have your style look new and refreshing. Pair a cozy wool scarf with a form fitting long sleeve shirt and jeans, and you have that highly sought after, easy going outfit for those seemingly endless days of school.
When you just can’t seem to Play well Together
Picking which accessories to go with what you want to wear can be the best part to putting together an outfit. But you have to be careful when coordinating each piece. Some accessories just don’t work well with certain garments. A halter dress for example, should be left alone when it comes to necklaces. The neck line of a halter dress is perfect just as it is. There’s no need to clutter it up with anything. Though, if you are feeling a little bare, slipping on a flashy ring or skinny bracelet could be the finishing touch to this ensemble. And just because it’s the winter, doesn't mean you have to put away your dresses either. Simply put on a great pair of tights or leggings to chase away that winter chill.
