How to
style the biggest trends for Winter 2018/2019
We’ve scanned the catwalks and selected the most relevant trends for
this season and included some easy tips and tricks so you can rock them all
winter long. You’re welcome.
1) YEE-HAW!
Apparently the wild west
is more alive then ever. As seen on the runway of designers like Isabel Marant
and Chloe, among many others, the cowboy-style seems to be everywhere. From
shirts with leather and denim detailing to garments with plenty of fringy
accents, even Dior’s hit Saddle bag from the late 90’s made a comeback. For
this winter don’t be afraid to include corduroy or fringy accents to your
looks, just a simple touch will instantly update your outfit.
2) NEON
The 80s revival has been all over Fall Winter 2018
runway shows. From designers like Prada, Saint Laurent and Moschino, we have
seen that power suiting, strong shoulders, bold prints and sequins are
definitely here. One of the most signature 80s look is a tribute to the David
Bowie days: Neon. Bold shades like slime-green, bright yellow, orange and
fuchsias have been worn as either statement pieces or as a full-on ensemble. Neon sweaters are a great way to insert the trend
into your wardrobe this season, while still making it appropriate for work or
school. Pair it with black jeans and booties for a chic outfit.
3) STRONG SHOULDERS
As we travel through the 80s this
season, strong shoulders in all of its glory couldn’t be left out. We’re
talking all kinds of shoulder pad drama: padded, dropped lower for an oversized
look, gathered or with round edges. This
retro staple refreshes all kinds of jackets and points us in the direction of
power suiting, with head-to-toe tailoring as the current reboot. For a daily-life
appropriate ensemble, try mixing a bolder blazer with a simple jeans and tee
combo for instant sophistication.
4)
CHECKS
Cher
from Clueless would be proud. 90’s style checks are big on the runways this
season, with bold colours and tailored silhouettes. Although we’ll see it more
often on blazers and trousers, the print has been showing up in crop tops and
breezy skirts. For a more understated look pick one statement piece and mix it
with neutrals like black or grey, for a modern twist style it with florals.
5) RAWR!
Much like the animal
kingdom itself, Animal print has been seen in all its diversity during Fall
Winter 2018 fashion week. From Tom Ford to Balenciaga, we’ve spotted hundreds
of different interpretations of the trend, the bolder and brighter to the more
understated. This particular print may seem a bit daunting, but if styled
correctly it makes for a modern and sophisticated look. For a subtle nod to the
trend, style animal print bottoms with a chunky sweater or sleek blazer. If you
want to go all out, opt for a dress with booties or a full on cheetah coat.
