As consumers we are constantly accumulating an unnecessary amount of plastic bags. These single use plastic bags are detrimental to our environment. It’s hard to see when we've been accustomed to it for so long. These single use plastics are accelerating climate change, and should be dealt with urgency, according to t
he Guardian. Only a fraction of these single use plastics are being recycled and over 100 billion are disposed of, taking up to 1000 years to fully decompose, according to
Conserving Now. How can we help this problem? To become more of a sustainable society by ditching single use plastic bags, I will show some cute easy DIY’s on how to make your own eco friendly reusable bag.
Fabric Hobo Bag
What makes a plastic bag so appealing is that its light, and strong. If you're looking for an easy, ready, lightweight bag to whip out at a moments notice then the Hobo Bag is for you! Its structure is typically large giving you a lot of room for your produce or everyday needs. It's designed to wear over the shoulder, and usually made out of soft, flexible fabric. The perfect thing about this bag is you can make it out of eco friendly fabrics, that you can find online, or use the fabrics of old clothes you don't wear anymore. This handmade bag is a super cool project to do at home on an afternoon day with a cup of coffee. This handmade bag does take a lot of time to make, but the end result of it is so worth it. Plus you'll be using this bag day to day! Keeping up with current trends in styles this month ive been seeing Macramé bags all over the place. Now instead of buying a bag that is mass produced from a retailer and probably did some harm to the environment, why not make your own? Looking for a more durable bag to do your shopping with? The Canvas Tote Bag is a perfect durable bag, that is super easy to make, and can fold away into your purse when your not using it. I found many tutorials online how to make a Canvas Tote bag, but one that stuck out to me was the simplest one. A website called InstructablesCraft provides a simple and easy tutorial on how to make a basic Canvas bag out of Muslin-a pretty boring piece of fabric but is eco friendly. What I love about this tutorial is that it shows you the basics on how to sew a Tote bag, so now that you know how to sew one you can use any type of fabric to do so! It's your very own personalized tote. Another website I stumbled across was MamooKids, and they showed multiple ways on how to decorate a plain tote bag, to make it fashionable and fun! If you're looking for a night craft and a glass of wine I definitely recommend doing this with a friend or two. You can have fun together and personalize your own cute and fab tote!

With these sustainable and easy to make tutorials, hopefully it gives you a bit of inspiration to ditch those single use plastics bags, and turn to a method of environmentally friendly bags. We all say that we want to make a difference towards the environment but how can one person make a difference? Well if we all chip in and do something then it can a major impact towards the planet.
