This year Pantone Colour Institute has broke tradition and selected two colours for the annual award announced in January. As you may have already guessed by the bright infographic; yes yellow is colour of the year or as Pantone describes it “Illuminating”. But another colour does in fact steal its shine this year; the more practical “Ultimate Gray”. Together these colours create an aura that’s pleasing to the eye and as colour specialist Leatrice Eiseman say’s they are a “message of strength and hopefulness that’s both enduring and at the same time uplifting”.
These two colours seem to bring on the feeling that with fortitude in the year ahead will bring on brighter days. As to why the prestigious institute broke tradition; Eiseman explains “It’s all about more than one. And that’s a really important statement”. The idea of having two colours signified our need to reach out and connect with others or at least that’s the reasoning and hope for Pantone this year. Pantone had originally planned to make “Classic Blue” the colour of the year but things took a turn similar to the events of this year. If Pantone hadn’t chosen two colours what colour would you like to have seen be selected? Answer this question in our survey below!

Enter: Daniel Lee
You may have heard about “Old Celine” and you may know that recently it has carried the same sentiment as “New Bottega” with Daniel Lee leaving Celine and Phoebe Philo to become the creative director of Bottega Veneta. This quiet yet radical designer has shifted the image of the fashion house in a few short years since being appointed in 2019. The brand saw strong growth through 2020 and excelled in online sales to end off fiscal 2020 for the luxury label. Daniel Lee is not an open book and his private life is very much that, private. This seems to mesh well with the brands everlasting “logoless” mantra. He has identified a new market of millennial buyers for the brand with inspirations from Bottegas traditional subtle designs toned with current fashion trends.
Judging by Lee’s spring/summer 2021 collection “Salon 01” the designer looks to become more prominent in media as the collection will feature a series of three books and a record which will illustrate the making of the collection and Daniel Lee’s designing process and influences.
