Gettin’ Lippy With It
A selection of must-have lip colours that
will carry you through all seasons
Lip colour is one of the simplest ways of adding a pop of colour
to an otherwise bland outfit. Many people are afraid of bold colours and stick
with the basic cherry Chap Stick. While, Chap Stick is beneficial, many lipsticks
offer the same smoothing agents but add a little spice into your life. If you
are unsure as to what colour to buy or where to buy it hopefully these tips can
brighten your day .
Pop of Pink
A bright pink lipstick is essential. It is a colour that looks
great on everyone, and adds a little excitement to an outfit. It is not necessarily
a great daytime look, but put a coat of a beautiful fuscia after work and you are ready for a night
out on the town. A great pink is NARS’ Schiap (Sephora, $26) it’s a creamy
application that goes on matte with an amazing staying power. Disclaimer, NARS
itself calls it a “shocking pink”, so just be aware it is not for the faint of
heart.
Lady in Red
Every lady
needs a great red lipstick. It adds a glamourous aspect to an outfit. We have
seen many celebrities rock the red from Rihanna to Miley Cyrus; it is their go
to. Do not be afraid of wearing a great red lipstick during the day, it will
complete your outfit. Red is also said to attract the opposite sex, so who
knows you may even find a man simply by applying some burgundy. Our favourite
is Tarte’s Glamazon™ Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick in Wild (Sephora, $26). This
lipstick glides on so easily, you do not need constant reapplication y because
it stays put for hours. Perfect for the office, you do not want to have to make
a bathroom run every few minutes.
Nearly Naked
Many looks recently seen on the runway for Spring
2014 have included a nude lip. A nude colour lipstick is a simple way to seem
casual, yet sophisticated. By wearing this colour you let your outfit stand
out, so wear bold colours to compensate for the lack-there-of on your
lips. Finding a great colour is a
little bit of a difficult task, some can have too much of a peach hue or some
can be too much like your natural colour. The key to a nude lip is having it a little
lighter than your skin tone. A
great nude lipstick is Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Nude Attitude
(Drugstores, $9.59). This lipstick goes on great and stays on for a good amount
of time. A perfect nude!
Come to the Dark Side
Okay, so you have
fallen in love with the bright pink, you have rocked the red and have dabbled
in the nude, now is time for something completely different. Oxblood, which is
a dark, almost black, red lipstick. We have seen many fashion houses send their
models down the runway with this colour on their lips. Surprisingly, this
colour looks good on everyone. By rocking an oxblood colour, go simple with the
eye make up, so you do not take away from your lips. The lipstick of choice is
NARS’ lipstick in Fast Ride (Sephora, $26). NARS never steers you wrong with
their lipsticks, it goes on matte and stays on for a really long time. Oxblood
has been seen in clothing for a few seasons now, so it is only right that we
should wear it on our lips.
Well there you have it,
a list of lipsticks that every woman needs. From pink to oxblood colours will
not disappoint. If we have learned anything today, do not be afraid from
colour. Lipstick is a great option for those who want to look straight off the
runway, without spending thousands on a Chanel dress. Lipstick is something
that cannot only brighten your day, but your lips as well!
